Slack
LevelFour posts cost anomalies, new savings recommendations, digests and forecast breaches into the channels you choose, then answers follow-up questions inside the alert's own thread against your billing data.
Prerequisites
- You can install apps in the Slack workspace. Many workspaces reserve this for admins, or require an admin to approve the request.
- You are signed in to
https://dashboard.levelfour.aias a member of the LevelFour organization you are connecting to.
Connect
Open Settings, then Integrations
In the dashboard sidebar, click Settings, then Integrations, then the Slack tile.
If the tile reads Contact sales, Slack is not enabled for your organization yet. Click it to ask.
Add to Slack
Click Add to Slack. Slack opens in a new tab with the permission screen.
Approve the requested access. The thread-reading permissions are optional. Decline them and the bot still posts alerts, and still answers when you mention @levelfour. Approve them and you can ask it a question in the thread without the mention.
Subscribe a channel
Come back to the dashboard tab and wait for the panel to read Connected.
Then, in each channel you want alerts in, run:
/levelfour subscribe anomaliesRemoving access
Click Disconnect on the Slack panel under Settings > Integrations. To remove the app from Slack as well, open your workspace's Manage apps page and remove LevelFour there.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| The panel waits for authorization | The Slack tab was closed before you approved. Click Try again |
| The bot answers only when mentioned | The workspace declined the optional thread-reading permissions. Reconnect and approve them |
| A channel gets no alerts | Run /levelfour subscribe anomalies in that channel, and check the bot is a member of it |
| Slack says the app needs admin approval | Your workspace restricts app installs. Ask a Slack admin to approve the request |
