Prerequisites

A Modal Team or Enterprise plan. The Starter plan cannot use the billing API this connector reads.
A workspace Owner or Manager, to create the token. Modal has no billing-only role: a Member cannot access billing at all, and there is no read-only scope for Owners or Managers either.

In Modal's workspace settings, create a new token as an Owner or Manager. Copy the Token ID (ak-...) and the Token secret (as-...).

Open Connect Providers, select Modal, and paste the two values under Token ID and Token secret. Click Add Token ID.

The connection moves to Connected. Your first data appears within a day.

Create a new token in Modal, paste it into Connect Providers, then revoke the old token from Modal's workspace settings.

Disconnect Modal under Connect Providers, then revoke the token from Modal's workspace settings.

Symptom	What to do
The token cannot read billing at all	Only Owner and Manager tokens can read workspace billing. A Member's token, or a service user with only an Environment Role, cannot
Reported cost runs above your invoice	This connector reports cost before credits and reservations are applied. Compare against your billed total, not the report total, when reconciling
The connection is refused on a Starter plan	Upgrade to Team or Enterprise. The billing report API this connector reads is not available on Starter
